Machu Picchu is an ancient city in South America, in Cusco Region in Peru. It is often called “the city of heaven” or “the city of light”, as it was built at an altitude of 2450 meters high.
One of the most outstanding architectural monuments in the world is a Roman Catholic basilica, near the Colombian city of Ipiales, not far from the border with Ecuador. The fascinating thing about this place is that it was built inside the canyon where the Guitara River flows. Las Lajas Cathedral, also known as “Las Lajas Sanctuary”, is at 100 meters high from the bottom of the canyon, being connected with a 50 meters tall bridge to the other side of the ravine.
Iguazu falls is on the border between Brazil and Argentina. It is one of the widest waterfalls on earth. If you ever imagined an island coming out of the water and floating in the sky, this picture is for you. Though it does not actually leave the earth, it seems to play on the imagination of an island acceding.
A world renowned tourist destination is “La Isla de la Munecas”- a Spanish name which means the Island of the dolls. This sad island was never meant to be a stop on tourists’ holiday itineraries. The Island of the Dolls was dedicated to the lost soul of a poor little girl who met her fate too soon.
An Argentine man planted a guitar shaped forest to commemorate his lost wife. The green guitar is the handiwork of a farmer named Pedro Martin Ureta, who is now 70. He embedded the design into his farm many years ago, and maintains it to this day, as a tribute to his late wife, Graciela Yraizoz, who died in 1977 at the age of 25.
El Aguila (The Eagle in English) – Stone House in the Shape of an Eagle’s Head. Located at a distance of 3 kilometers from the city Atlántida in the province called Canelones, is one of the most unusual buildings you can find at the coast of the Rio de la Plata (River Plate).
On private property close to Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park is an amazing and ancient place much like a water park created by nature with pools, natural water slides and cascades. It’s called Vale da Lua or Valley of the Moon due to the smooth rocks formed by river and ancient lava flows. Still others call it Moon Valley.
The San Alfonso del Mar resort, located north of the city, is home to the world’s largest outdoor pool.
Kaieteur Falls is a high-volume waterfall on the Potaro River in central Guyana. It is 226 meters (741 ft) high.
