Looking to go on holiday, but you aren’t sure about what your destination should look like? The modern world of last-minute holidays provides a myriad of answers. Make the right booking, and you’ll be able to enjoy a spontaneous, affordable adventure. However, what the right booking really looks like might depend on your personal tastes and priorities. Let’s run through a few worthy candidates, and see whether we can provide some inspiration.
Get Away to Soak Up Some Sun
If you’re looking for a sun-drenched, approachable destination, then southern Europe is sure to appeal. There’s Lisbon, with its iconic trams and endless sweeping viewpoints. There’s Barcelona, with its amazing Cathedral and other masterworks by Gaudí. Then there’s Tenerife, with its year-round sunshine, and its easy access to the surrounding Canary Islands.
Culture-filled City Breaks
Of course, not every city in Europe enjoys quite the same level of sunshine. Fortunately, many of them make up for it with an abundance of culture and history, much of which is apparent in the architecture. Many major cities come with seriously impressive art galleries and museums. In Paris, for example, it’s the famous Louvre; visitors to Amsterdam might make a point of dropping in to the iconic Rijksmuseum.
Naturally, there are some parts of the continent that have their own unique histories. Vienna, for example, is inseparable from the golden age of Classical music, and it’s a must-visit for fans of Mozart.
Hiking Through the Hills
Going on a long, bracing hike can help remind you that there’s more to Europe than its major cities. By traveling on foot, you can rediscover the land itself. This might mean strolling along the banks of a major river, or over a mountain range.
In Scandinavia, the landscapes are particularly striking – and this is part of what makes it so irresistible to UK-based travelers. Whether you’re visiting Norway, Sweden, Finland, or Denmark, there’s a hiking trail for you, and all of them can be easily reached via a UK airport. For example, there’s the Kungslseden, or King’s Trail, in Northern Sweden, which will appeal to hikers of every level of experience.

Preparation is Key
When you’re pondering your options when it comes to last-minute travel, the best approach is to come up with a shortlist of destinations that you’d like to visit. That way, when an opportunity does come up, you won’t need to hesitate or pause to do the research. You’ll have already done it!
It’s also a good idea to have a number of useful apps installed on your phone, and to make sure that your packing is tight and efficient. Wasted space will slow you down!
