Spreuerhofstraße in Reutlingen, Germany: The Narrowest Street in the World
While wandering around in the streets, we probably never wonder of its origins. Our world is full of roads, highways, avenues and streets. There are all kinds of it: long and short, muddy and cobbled, lushes and concrete, busy and empty. But, also there is the narrowest street of them all and it is Reutlingen, Germany.
Reutlingen is a small town, with a population of just over 100,000. Among it’s medieval buildings are 14th century churches: Church of the St.Nicholas and Gothic style Church of the Virgin Mary. Also, there are the remains of the old city wall on Jos-Weiss Strasse, Reutlingen is a charming little city, with gorgeous architecture and beautiful squares and streets. But, narrowest street in the world happens to be in here as well. Spreuerhofstraße’s width ranges from 12.2 in to 19.7 inches. The street was rebuilt a year after the citywide fire of 1726, And, it was officially registered as City Street Number 77.
Honestly, it is just the gap between two buildings. Probably, places like this are plenty around the world, but none of them were listed as a street; this one has.
