The Groovy Zoo: Free Roadside Art in Mineral Bluff, GA
The owners, Steve and Wanda Wile have backgrounds in real estate and decided in early 2021 they needed a change and wanted to create a “happy place” for everyone, so, the idea of The Groovy Zoo emerged. At dinner one evening we drew a rendering of how we wanted The Zoo to appear on a napkin. We then decided to create signs about the animals with fun facts and make it a fun, family friendly destination for everyone of all ages.
The Groovy Zoo located in Mineral Bluff, GA, opened in the beginning of 2021. It is a fascinating and whimsical outdoor roadside attraction and retail shop that features thousands of unique, vibrant handmade metal and cast aluminum sculptures. Multiple acres filled with creative birdhouses, plant stands, wind spinners, flowers, furniture, pottery and even heavy-duty smokers and 3D printed art. Unlike traditional art galleries, you are actively encouraged to touch the art, pose next to the statues, and take fun selfies.
You will walk among towering, scale-accurate giraffes, massive elephants, and fierce dinosaurs made entirely from reclaimed metal. The yard features recognizable characters ranging from Minions living in their “Minion Motel” and sports mascots to whimsical space aliens and standard farm animals. The gnomes and 8 feet mushrooms make you feel like you’re in a wonderland!
Visitors are welcome to walk through the displays and take photos with the art pieces. A beautiful, calm creek flows right through the back of the property, providing a scenic North Georgia backdrop for the metallic art pieces. It is the ultimate spot to pick up an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind conversation piece for your own lawn, patio, or garden.
The Groovy Zoo LOVES families and our furry friends. Children can wander through acres of open outdoor space filled with thousands of colorful, whimsical statues. Families are encouraged to get up close, touch the sculptures, and take playful photos next to life-sized animals, dinosaurs, and cartoon characters.
A playground with life sized interactive games like Connect Four and Jenga is perfect for the family. Several picnic tables are situated directly next to the playground, allowing parents to sit and rest while keeping an eye on their children. Kids can explore the playground area as well as a quirky converted school bus filled with various art displays.
There is no admission charge or parking fee to enter and wander the grounds. It sits right along the main highway, making it an easy, high-reward detour if you are traveling between Blue Ridge and McCaysville.
The Groovy Zoo is a must see for its unique combination of massive artistic scale, interactive freedom, and budget-friendly family fun set against a scenic North Georgia mountain backdrop.
We are open 7 days a week. Monday – Saturday 9am – 7pm and Sundays 10am – 5pm.
