Fun and Adventure in Door County, Wisconsin
Door County, Wisconsin offers some of the best food, recreational activities, and shopping experience in the whole state. No wonder it’s always packed with people during summer. It is also known as a family destination because there is a little bit of something for everyone there. This doesn’t mean, however, that single individuals and couples will find the place boring. On the contrary, it’s an exciting place to be for lovers in their honeymoon or solo travelers looking for adventure. It’s definitely a must-go place whenever you’re going to Wisconsin. And even if you’ve been to Door County several times, the place always has something new to offer every time you come back.
When it comes to things to do, Door County, Wisconsin offers a long list. When you go there, you will not have a problem searching for fun activities. Your problem will be what to do and where to go first. The opportunities for fun and adventure that the place offers can sure be overwhelming, especially for first-timers. One of the things that you need to know about Door County is that it consists of several towns. Some of the most famous towns in “the door,” as locals like to call the place, are Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, and Sister Bay. All of these towns are located on the Western Side of the county, along Highway 42. Another good reason to visit Door County is the water. It boasts of a 300-mile shoreline, making it one of the best places in Wisconsin to enjoy nature.
As mentioned earlier, Door County offers plenty of attractions. But here are the ones you shouldn’t miss.
Washington Island
You can only access Washington Island by taking either one of the two ferry lines that travel from the mainland to the island. One of the lines is Island Clipper that only transports people and the other is the Washington Island Ferry Line, which you should take if you want to bring your car. Do you remember the saying, the journey is more important than the destination? Well, you’ll be reminded by that saying when you take the Island Clipper to go to Washington Island. The trip is a delightful experience thanks in big part to the guide who tells interesting stories of the different islands that you’ll pass by.
To get around the island without a car, you can either rent a bike or ride the train. Renting a bike is the best way to really go around and see the island. The train tour is highly recommended too, especially for first-timers, so they can cover a lot of tracks and enjoy the benefits of having a guide.
There are several attractions on the island, but you should definitely make a stop at Schoolhouse Beach, which is one of only a few limestone beaches in the world. If you’ve never been to a limestone beach before, then you’re in for a treat. The place is absolutely beautiful. While limestones may not be the most comfortable material to walk on, it offers a visual spectacle. The crystal clear water will make you want to jump right in.
State Parks
Door County has four state parks that you can visit; these are Newport State Park, Penninsula State Park, Potawatomi State Park, and Whitefish Dunes State Park. If you’re a true lover of nature, then going to any of the parks mentioned above will rekindle your passion for the great outdoors. The parks offer several activities to visitors, including hiking, camping, cross country trails, and snowmobiling, among others. Of course, water activities are always an option thanks to the miles of shoreline that line Door County.

Speaking of water, one of the best ways to experience and see Door Country is via a kayak tour. So you haven’t bee in a kayak before? Don’t worry.
