Copenhill Recreation Center

Built on top of the new Amager Resource Centre, Copenhill replaced the existing 50 year old plant, in 2017. An innovative outdoor recreation center was designed by the architectural firm BIG and was opened in the fall of 2019. Copenhill is a multi-use complex offering: skiing, sledding, hiking, running trails, as well as food and dining options. Since it is located at the highest point in the city, the rooftop offers extravagant views of the harbor and surroundings, while the giant chimney can be seen reaching far into the sky above.

Betides all the fun stuff, it is the only building of its kind. Copenhills inception puts Copenhagen on track for achieving its goal of being the worlds leader in carbon neutrality. The design itself has attracted lots of attention for its unique concept of combining waste management, recreation and socialization all in one spot. Inside the building, waste is converted into clean energy, providing heat and electricity to the local municipalities. The outside of the building is designed to absorb heat and minimize waste water runoff.

The outdoor recreation area provides opportunities for everyone. Ski any day of the year on the snow free slope and slalom course, or practice your tricks in the freestyle park. Not a skier? Have a go at sledding and enjoy unlimited runs. If hiking and running are your thing, there are numerous trails available to match all levels and keep every visit interesting. Even the fiercest hiker can find a challenge. For some relaxation take the glass elevator up and enjoy the beautiful public park and gardens. Or have a drink in the rooftop bar, which offers hot and cold beverages and snacks. The unmatched city and water views are breathtaking and a must see. If your feeling parched and at ground level, the cafe is also a great option. In addition to the everyday activities provided in this outdoor wonderland, Copenhill offers educational opportunities, crossfit events and many other special events which can be found on their website throughout the year.
