How to Make the Most of a Weekend in Atlanta

When you think of Atlanta, you probably think about a busy city where you are going to feel overwhelmed, and it’s going to be busy your whole visit, but there is more to it than that.

Although you might not think it, it is a city that can bring you adventures and even give you time to slow down. Let’s have a look at how you can make the most of a weekend in Atlanta:

Choose the Right Part of the City

Atlanta is a large and widespread city, which means this can be an issue if you don’t choose the right spot to visit. If you stay too far North or West, you will lose too much time to traffic.

Try staying downtown, and you should be near everything that you want to see.

This includes places like the Georgia Aquarium, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and State Farm Arena. You’ll also be right next to the streetcar loop, which means you will have easy access to some of the city’s central spots.

If you are trying to work out where to stay downtown in Atlanta GA, there are many great options that allow you to have walkability.

Eat Without Overplanning

Atlanta’s food scene is wide, and there is plenty of choice. You don’t need to book every meal, which is great, as there is always something for you to just fall on.

Make sure you choose something like a walkable breakfast so you can get out straightaway and head to the Ponce City Market for lunch. It might be touristy, but it’s a must-see spot when you head here for a weekend.

You can then slow down and enjoy a meal in the evening. Don’t feel like every mealtime needs to be an experience; otherwise, all your time will revolve around food rather than everything else Atlanta has to offer.

Keep your Schedule Loose

One of the best ways to ruin a quick weekend trip is when you overfill it. Atlanta’s pace is slower than that of other major cities that you might go to. That’s a good thing, so think of it as a positive.

You’ll get more out of fewer hours in one place rather than feeling like you need to rush between many different places to see it all. It’s much better to wander around for an hour in one spot than rush around to try to see everything.

Make sure you also include plenty of downtime, leave space to linger when you find somewhere you enjoy. The city isn’t going anywhere, so take your time at your evening meal and relax, ready for the next day.

Conclusion

Atlanta works best when you don’t try to see everything all at once. You need to pick the right place to stay, eat well, and make sure that you move at your own pace rather than trying to rush.

Food, music, or history, the city gives you plenty to explore without making it feel like a hard weekend.

And if it all goes right, you’ll leave already planning to come back. Have you ever been to Atlanta before? It would be great to hear about it in the comments below.
