Travelling or making time for travel is something everyone should prioritise at some point in their lives. Whether it’s a specific continent you’ve always wanted to visit, a particular culture you want to immerse yourself in or an experience you’ve always wanted to try since you were a child, travelling the world can both soothe your soul and quench your thirst for adventure in equal measures.

Interestingly, one of the most fundamental elements of travelling is one that many travellers get wrong. And it’s also something that can cause a lot of confusion and anxiety when planning a trip. We’re talking of course about packing.

In this post, we’ll explore some clothing hacks for travellers that will keep you both fashionable and functional no matter where you are in the world.

Always Opt for Versatility

When packing for a trip, versatility is always the way forward. Opting for clothes that can be worn on multiple occasions and situations is key to streamlining your packing process. From vest tops that can be worn individually or layered, to sleek skinny jeans that you can take from day to night. Jumpsuits can keep you covered and cool when sightseeing but also won’t look out of place when enjoying drinks at a bar on an evening.

Think about your destination and what your days and nights might look like. Think about how the same pieces of clothing can be worn differently and multiple times to keep your packing smart and light without compromising on style.

Be Careful With Fabrics

To keep your suitcase both functional and fashionable, taking a closer look at fabrics can be helpful. Opting for items that are made from wrinkle-free materials, are lightweight and also quick drying can keep you looking well-presented and help you avoid overpacking to compensate for messy, untidy and sodden clothing.

Don’t Forget Your Accessories

Keeping your suitcase streamlined doesn’t mean you have to leave your favourite accessories behind. It’s easy to think that these additional items will be taking up too much space, when in fact multifunctional accessories could be your new best friend! Items such as scarves that can also be used as blankets and wraps are a great example, and your trusty tote bag can double up as your carry-on and your beach bag.

Footwear Selection

Footwear can make or break a trip. The last thing any traveller wants is to have their once-in-a-lifetime trip interrupted by painful shoes, blisters and sore ankles. Choosing footwear that is comfortable and can be worn in multiple scenarios is key here.  A simple pair of sneakers with good arch support and cushioning are great for a day of sightseeing but can also look the part when dressed up with a skirt or smart jeans for the evening. A pair of ankle boots might be a good choice for a city break in a cooler destination – they’ll offer support and warmth during the daytime but also look great with evening attire.

Final Thoughts…

Packing the right amount of clothes and the correct attire for your destination can be a proverbial minefield. No one wants to be lumbered with a huge amount of luggage whilst we worry about every potential scenario, nor do we want to travel so light that we end up spending our time shopping to fill the gaps in our suitcases! Consider the tips above to ensure you stay fashionable and functional on your next trip.
