The Medieval Charm of Monemvasia, Greece

Established by the Byzantines in the 6th century, Monemvasia is a stunning medieval fortress city situated on the southeastern shoreline of the Peloponnese. While today’s old city of Monemvasia is home to only about a dozen permanent residents, compared to its 12th-century peak when it may have housed thousands, the town continues to captivate visitors and remains firmly rooted in its history.

Traveling to Monemvasia

Monemvasia does not have its own airport. The most convenient point of arrival is the International Airport of Athens, which accommodates flights from all Greek islands and international destinations. From Athens, Monemvasia can be reached by bus from Kifissos Bus Station (via Sparti or Molai). The journey lasts approximately six hours.
